Wait, What?

Something has been bothering me. Part of the cause of our current financial wreck is a lack of government oversight. We trusted our leaders to keep an eye on the store and make sure the owners didn't run it into the ground. They were asleep on the job.
By now everyone has heard about the AIG party fiasco in California. So here is what is bothering me. In the AIG bailout the U.S. government took an 80% controlling interest in the company. So now we own it and our leaders are still not watching the store?
